DonateLife Week 2024

DonateLife Week

Forum Specialists supports the key messages communicated by DonateLife during DonateLife week 28 July – 4 August 2024

  • All Australians are encouraged to be organ and tissue donors, so that you can be the reason someone else gets a second chance at life.
  • 4 in 5 Australians say they support organ donation but only approximately 1 in 3 are registered to be a donor on the Australian Organ Donor Register
  • Anyone over the age of 16 can register to be a donor. It doesn’t matter if you think you’re not healthy as its likely that some organs or tissues will be suitable for donation
  • Only 2% of Australians die in a way that makes it possible for them to donate their organs- each donor is so precious
  • Donors can help people with kidney failure, heart failure, lung disease, liver disease, Type 1 diabetes, and many other medical problems. To find out more about organ donation go to the DonateLife website here
  • You can register to be an organ donor via this link. It only takes one minute to register. You can also register to be a donor via myGov and the Express Plus Medicare App.

It’s important to advise your family that you want to be a donor, as they will always be asked to support your decision in order for organ donation to go ahead
